Paintings

“With a deft hand and a discerning eye, Peter Strickman embraced a multitude of subjects and styles in his art.  He expressively painted the beauty of the natural world, though he seemed to have had a more complex, cerebral view of those who inhabit it. His landscapes, often a blur of verdant foliage and azure waterways, sometimes border on abstraction, but always contain joy. A darker mood emerges in the artist’s still life and figurative paintings, where even toothbrushes and telephones can feel ominous, and lone figures evoke a sense of isolation and desperation. And yet Strickman takes us to another realm in his lyrical ink drawings, that speak to the artist’s inner spiritual life. In the end, Strickman leaves us with an accomplished body of work that mostly enhances but also disturbs our sensibilities.”
